NIJIS welcomes scholarly contributions that explore contemporary and classical issues in Islamic thought, Qur'anic and Hadith studies, Islamic law and ethics, Islamic education, pesantren studies, Islamic communication and da'wah, digital religion, religious authority, Muslim media, Islamic organizations, Islam and politics, Islam and local culture, Southeast Asian Islam, comparative Muslim communities, gender, youth, popular culture, and emerging issues such as artificial intelligence and Islamic knowledge production.

The journal encourages interdisciplinary approaches that integrate Islamic Studies with the social sciences, humanities, education, communication, law, political science, media studies, and digital technology. By fostering rigorous academic research, NIJIS aims to enrich scholarly discussions on Islam and Muslim societies while promoting dialogue, innovation, and evidence-based perspectives on contemporary issues.

NIJIS is published biannually in June and December.
